MUSCAT, 18 October 2005 — In a major move, the Oman government has allowed around 5,700 Indians, here on expired employment visas, to go back home once the formalities are completed .

Oman, which recently allowed all expatriates on expired visit visa to leave the country by Dec. 31 this year, has extended this special favor to hard-pressed Indians with expired employment visa duly registered with the Indian Embassy. According to reports, this is neither an amnesty nor a blanket move that accommodates expatriates with expired empolyment visas from other communities.

“This remains an Indian—specific issue,” asserted an authentic source.

The news was flashed by the Indian media, especially Kairali and Asianet, qouting reliable Indian sources.

Apparently, the Indian Embassy, helped by the Indian Social Club, has been pushing the cause in a major way.
