NEW DELHI, 25 October 2005 — Nearly five years after terrorists stormed the historic Red Fort here killing two security personnel and a civilian, a Delhi court yesterday convicted Lashkar-e-Taiba militant Mohammad Arif alias Ashfaq and six others. The court acquitted four others.
Additional Sessions Judge O.P. Saini convicted Ashfaq for waging war against the country, murder, criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and under Foreigner’s Act, explosives and Arms Act. Ashfaq’s wife Rehmana Yusuf Farooqi was convicted for waging war against the country, criminal conspiracy and providing shelter to Ashfaq.
Matloob Alam, Nazir Ahmed Qasid and his son Farooq Ahmed Qasid, Babar Mohsil Bagahwala and Sadaqat Ali were convicted for criminal conspiracy and forgery.
“The court has awarded sentences to the accused for coming to India for the purpose of an attack on the country.
The court will announce the quantum of sentence on Oct. 29.
