JEDDAH, 31 October 2005 — Cuisines around the world came together for the “Shop & Taste” festival at Le Mall shopping center. The festival, organized by the Westin Jeddah Hotel & Suites and Le Mall, grabbed the attention of many women who met to watch the live cooking demonstrations. Following the format of a TV cooking show, Westin Jeddah chefs demonstrated how to cook dishes from different countries in a kitchenette that stands in the second floor of Le Mall.
“It is a very great idea to run the ‘Shop & Taste’ festival in Ramadan to help us to find new recipes to cook,” said Lama who attended two days of the event. One day presented Italian dishes, the second a French recipe of Shrimp Provencal. Lama successfully recreated the recipe at home.
Since housewives are always busy during Ramadan thinking what to cook, the festival provides them with dozens of international recipes and methods of cooking that they can first see cooked by the Westin chefs.
“Women and housewives who come to Le Mall can now learn some new culinary skills,” Mohamed Madani, Le Mall director and the executive manager of the festival.
Chefs make a main course dish and a dessert each night and serve them to 30 to 35 people. The festival continues until the end of Ramadan.
