Shahabuddin Bereaved

PATNA, 19 November 2005 — The only son of Indian Muslim leader Syed Shahabuddin was found dead in New York on Thursday. Dr. Syed Pervez Ahmad, 42, was a tenure professor at Columbia University. Before leaving university on Thursday, Pervez talked to his wife by telephone. When he did not return home hours later, his wife informed police. Police later found Pervez’s body at an isolated place, but his car was missing. Shahabuddin’s son-in-law Afzal Amanullah said: “Pervez died in mysterious circumstances. We are in touch with the Indian Embassy and the US police to find out the reasons and circumstances of his death.” Pervez is survived by a son and a daughter.
