PARIS, 22 November 2005 — Nexans, Europe’s biggest cable maker, yesterday unveiled a contract worth $171 million to install an underwater electrical power cable connection between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. Nexans said the project, worth in total $343 million, was one of the largest ever undertaken and due to its size would be shared on a 50/50 basis with Prysmian Cavi e Sistemi of Italy, another cable provider. The project to interconnect the power transmission grids of Saudi Arabia and Bahrain is part of a larger project, the GCC Interconnection Grid.
