TAIF, 26 November 2005 — Police in Taif arrested three overstayers who were suspected to be supporters of Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, Al-Watan reported yesterday. The highway police arrested the three Asians on their way to Taif after they found materials praising Bin Laden in their car. One of the three works in a computer store. Investigations into their activities continue.
‘Missing’ Woman Held With Stranger
RIYADH, 26 November 2005 — A young woman who escaped from her family a few weeks ago has been arrested in Riyadh, Al-Riyadh said yesterday. The 20-year-old was reported missing by her family who gave a detailed description of her to the police. Secret police monitored places where she was likely to go and found her with a stranger in a furnished apartment. Police moved in and took the two into custody. The woman was later returned to her family, but the man remains in custody.
Imam Attacked Inside Mosque
JIZAN, 26 November 2005 — An 85-year-old prayer leader was attacked inside a mosque in Jizan while he was reading Qur’an, Al-Watan reported. The imam was waiting in the mosque for worshippers to arrive for the Fajr prayer when the lone attacker entered the mosque and beat him badly. The attacker then took the imam’s possessions and disappeared. The imam suffered bruises all over his body and was still recovering. Police said this was the fifth such incident in the area in memory.
18 Injured as Bus Crashes Into Truck
TAIF, 26 November 2005 — At least 18 people were injured when a bus carrying more than 30 passengers crashed into a truck on Taif-Riyadh highway, Al-Watan reported. Eight of the injured passengers are in serious condition. Police said the driver who slept at the wheel caused the accident.
Woman Prisoner Commits Suicide
ABHA, 26 November 2005 — An Ethiopian woman committed suicide inside a prison in Abha, Al-Watan reported yesterday. The woman, who was jailed for involvement in immoral activity, hanged herself inside her prison cell using a rope. Police opened an investigation into the circumstances that forced her to commit suicide.
