ISLAMABAD, 5 December 2005 — Pakistan is weighing several options to have an amicable resolution of the Kishanganga water dispute with India. One of the options is a “third party arbitration”, Arab News has learned from highly placed sources here yesterday.

Foreign Office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam, who will be proceeding to Makkah for the OIC extraordinary summit today, told Arab News: “The matter is under consideration by the government as the issue was not resolved during the meeting of Indus water commissioners of India and Pakistan during their last meeting in New Delhi in October last.”

When asked if the two countries would resort to bilateral dialogue at slightly higher level, she said, “The government is considering the matter. Nothing more I can say now.”

Well placed sources told this scribe “if it comes to seeking independent arbitration of the Kishanganga drop power project we will certainly adopt that course.”
