JEDDAH, 14 December 2005 — Encouraged by the victory of two women candidates in the recent elections to the board of directors of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the appointment by the Ministry of Commerce of two others, businesswomen in the Eastern Province and Madinah have either filed their names as candidates or expressed interest in running in the upcoming chamber elections in the two regions.
The Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EPCCI) will hold elections for its board of directors in two months and already applications from 33 candidates, including four businesswomen, have been received.
Meanwhile, Madinah businesswomen have expressed their desire to run in the elections — as yet unscheduled — for the chamber’s board of directors. Two businesswomen have already expressed their intention to run.
