JEDDAH, 5 January 2006 — Art is not a privilege that only certain people can practice and enjoy. Though the previous sentence could be associated with Communism, Jeddah art lovers are going to put the idea in motion today at Al-Sayrafi Mall.
More than 60 Saudi and Arab painters are going to display their works for the public for the coming two weeks at the main gate of the mall. The exhibition will also offer the opportunity for the participation of the masses. The event is entitled “Art For the Sake of Art.”
According to Eyad Samman, one of the exhibition’s organizers, the public is invited to inaugurate the exhibition at 9 p.m. today. Fifty scissors will be provided to 50 members of the audience to kick off the art project. The public will then paint a huge mural as onlookers watch.
The organizers are also going to honor distinguished Saudi artists who enriched the Saudi fine arts scene as well as journalists who have been covering cultural issues.
