JEDDAH, 22 January 2006 — Saudi Arabian Airlines’ catering served more than 15 million meals in the first nine months of 2005. Shawgi Mushtaq, the airlines’ vice president-catering, said that the catering division of Saudi Arabian Airlines had a great impact on the local market since it purchases 80 percent of its material from the Saudi market. Mushtaq adds that his division witnessed a 12-percent increase in the level of meal production in all of the division’s four local units (Jeddah, Riyadh, Madinah and Dammam) and its international unit in Cairo. He said that the airlines’ catering produced meals for 75,000 flights, including 11, 000 flights for international carriers. In 2005, Saudi Arabian Airlines’ Catering received the HACEP International Award given by Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS) in recognition of the airline’s high food safety standards.
