RIYADH, 22 January 2006 — The referees’ committee is expected to take a decision on Al-Hilal striker Ahmad Al-Suwaileh on whether to ban him for four games after video footage showed Al-Suwaileh punching Al-Ansar player Al-Ahmadi on the face. The confrontation was spurred when Suwaileh punched Ahmadi and in retaliation Ahmadi hit Suwaileh from behind during a match that ended 3-1 in Hilal’s favor. Ahmadi received a red card. The referee did not see Suwaileh’s punch. It is expected after reviewing the clippings that the referees’ committee would announce the decision.
Al-Tarajji Club to Represent Kingdom
DAMMAM, 22 January 2006 — Al-Tarajji club of Qatif is waiting for the Arab Weightlifting Federation to confirm their participation in the Arab weightlifting championship to be held in Jordan. Al-Tarajji is participating in the competition as champions. This is the first time Al-Tarajji is participating in such a major competition outside of the Kingdom.
Ahli, Ittihad Gain Wins in Basketball
JEDDAH, 22 January 2006 — Al-Ahli defeated Al-Nasr 90-45 in the third week match of the Saudi Basketball Tournament. The experienced Ahli side dominated the court with some incisive passes and frequent baskets. The match showed the vast divide between the two teams — Ahli being considerably more skillful. Al-Ittihad, the remaining force in the game, outscored Al-Hilal 89-60 in a match that was totally one-sided. Ahli and Ittihad remain unbeaten and have increased their points to 12 from six matches.
