JEDDAH, 26 January 2006 — The first official meeting of the Jeddah Municipal Council took place on Monday. The meeting was chaired by the council’s newly elected President Rabah Al-Dhaheri.

Tarek Fadaaq, the council’s vice president, said that the council is finalizing a website that will be activated soon. The website (www.jcc.gov.sa) will receive Jeddawis’ complaints as well offer a public forum for citizens to discuss important topics. Fax and telephone numbers will also be announced soon for the public.

“We are very keen to interact directly with the citizens,” said Fadaaq.

The council formed eight committees to distribute the work among members. Fadaaq said that each committee will have two to four members and will address specific issues.

“There is an investment committee, an urban planning and projects committee, an environment and health committee, a road and traffic committee, and others,” said Fadaaq.
