MADINAH, 20 August 2006 — The prosecutor in the trial of a notorious rapist, who terrorized housewives across Madinah and became locally known as the “Madinah Serial Killer,” has called for the death penalty to be handed to the 26-year-old man.
In a burglary spree in January, Khaled S. raped one woman and attempted to rape a number of others after breaking into their homes, reported Al-Watan. People across the city were so terrified of Khaled that they dubbed him the “Madinah Serial Killer,” even though he did not kill anyone.
The prosecutor mentioned that Khaled, who was arrested in February, terrorized the residents of Madinah to such an extent that people would uneasily sleep and were forced to take necessary precautions of locking their doors and adding extra security to their homes. The prosecutor called on the court to deliver a swift and severe punishment to ensure crimes like this never take place again.
Al-Watan obtained a file of the case from the General Court in Madinah, which included complete police reports, statements and evidence. The “Madinah Serial Killer” is facing a number of charges including burglary, rape, attempted rape, burglary, theft and possession of drugs.
Khaled, who is married with two children, first came to the attention of the police on Jan. 6 when he reportedly broke into a home in Madinah at 10 a.m. when the man of the house was away at work. Khaled threatened the woman, who was at home with her children and began telling her to take off her clothes otherwise he would kill her children. The woman started screaming at which he fled. An hour later, Khaled broke into another home but fled after a maid at the house also began to scream.
Six days later on Jan. 12, Khaled broke into the house of an Arab expatriate couple while the husband was away at work. Khaled threatened to kill the couple’s children and then went on to rape the wife. Two days later he broke into another house and tried raping another woman who managed to fight him off.
On the morning of Jan. 15, at 9 a.m. Khaled broke into a house in the city stealing some jewelry and a cell phone. He burgled another house on the same day again stealing money and jewelry. According to police reports, it was the stolen cell phone that finally led police to Khaled.
