JEDDAH, 23 August 2006 — Saudi Arabia will participate in the next Cairo Experimental Theater Festival that kicks off Sept. 9. The Kingdom’s contribution to the event will be a play titled “The Other Door.” The festival invited drama groups worldwide to participate.
The play is produced and acted by the Jeddah drama group at the Saudi Society of Arts and Culture. It was received well at the last Janadriya Festival.
The play was also shown last year at the Saudi Cultural Days in Tunisia and at the Damascus 12th International Theater Festival.
Iraqi Dramatist Amir Al-Hasnawi wrote the script and the performance was directed by Othman Fallatah who also performs.
The play deals with three nameless characters locked in a deserted place by some unnamed authority.
The play plot and dialogue is considered bold as its three characters represent the injustice that many people suffer in the Arab world for speaking out.
