Jeddah's first ‘Woman and Child Exhibition’ took place in the Al-Sultan Hall in the Intercontinental Hotel last week. The exhibition, organized by the Saudi Afrah Establishment, included things that would entertain and benefit a child. The stalls had items which could be bought for a baby shower as well as clothing and party requirements.

One of the stalls was Little Patches with a collection of baby and children’s clothes for ages from six months to sixteen years. Rasha Al-Harthi and May Abulfaraj are the designers. “This is the first time we have shown our designs in such an exhibition,” said Al-Harthi. “As the name indicates, our designs depend on patching pieces of fabrics together to form an attractive mixture of colors. She also added that they sell matching mother and children’s clothes. “It makes an impression when you see a mother and child wearing the same clothes.”

Marshmallows has a stall for birthdays and special occasions. It offers complete planning and arrangements for birthdays and children’s special occasions. “We arrange children’s parties from A to Z,” said Rola Dafterdar Banajah, the project director. “We decide on a single theme for the parties we arrange. For example, we once did a birthday party and the theme was the Disney Cartoon ‘Finding Nemo.’ All the tables featured seashells and fish figures; in addition, there were people wearing costumes from the cartoon which amused and entertained the children.”

One of the most interesting sections of the exhibition was a story-telling room in which a storyteller told fairy tales to children. Her costume was one from the story that she was telling.
