QATIF, 28 February 2006 — An academic team from three different US universities visited Qatif last week to orientate local students about how to apply to US universities.

The group consisted of representatives from the universities of Oregon, Hardford and Kansas. They were joined with a group from the US Embassy in Riyadh.

Approximately 250 young men and 60 young women attended an orientation session to explore the prospects of applying at US universities. Some of the students are about to graduate from high school and others are college graduates interested in post-graduate studies in the US.

The US delegation discussed with the students how to apply at each of the three universities they represent; an outline of how the secondary educational system in the US works; and the importance of learning English for the purposes of succeeding at US universities. The group visited Dammam and Alkhobar to meet students there.
