JEDDAH, 19 March 2006 — Prince Faisal ibn Mishal ibn Saud has been appointed deputy governor of Qasim with excellent rank, a Royal Court announcement said yesterday.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah made the appointment on the recommendation of Interior Minister Prince Naif.
Prince Faisal, who was born in Riyadh in 1959, holds a doctorate degree in political science from UK’s Durham University and a master’s degree in the same subject from the University of California.
Prince Faisal’s first government appointment was at the Ministry of Defense and Aviation in 1982 for its departments of foreign aid and security and information soon after graduation from King Saud University.
In 1988, he joined the office of Crown Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, as a consultant. He is also a member of the Association of Muslim World and International Information Committee for Memorization of the Qur’an.
Prince Faisal edited the book “Saudis and Terror: Cross Cultural View” in English (Ghana Publications, 2005). He also authored another book in English titled “The Open Councils and the Islamic Concept of Rule in Saudi Arabian Politics” (Gulf Center for Strategic Studies in London, 2003). He also wrote “Islamic Political Development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” with a foreword by Nelson Mandela.
The new deputy governor of Qasim has also written a number of articles in English on Saudi Arabia and its politics. He also has two books in English, “Diplomacy and Islamic Protocol” and “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: Challenge and Change,” are in the process of publication.
