ISLAMABAD, 17 December 2006 — In tit-for-tat diplomacy, Pakistan imposed restrictions on the movements of Indian diplomats in Islamabad, Foreign Office spokeswoman said yesterday.

“We took this decision in response to the Indian government’s restriction on Pakistani diplomats in New Delhi,” Tasnim Aslam said here. “It was Indian foreign minister who first gave orders to put restrictions on Pakistani diplomats in the Indian capital,” she added.

Tasnim said, “For last three months staff of Pakistan’s mission in Delhi was facing problem of restricted movements and continuous monitoring of our diplomats by the Indian intelligence agencies.”

Pakistan adopted a rule to restrict movements of Indian, Russian and some other countries’ diplomats during early 80s.
