JEDDAH, 20 March 2006 — A 70-year-old man was murdered by his son in Tabuk, according to a local Arabic daily.
The police said that after killing his father, the man concealed the body in an underground water storage tank in the house, Al-Madinah reported.
The son, who had made attempts on his father’s life several times before, entered the house on Friday and struck the old man several times with a heavy object taken from the kitchen, police said. Then the son dragged his father’s body to an underground water tank and threw in.
Another of the man’s sons, however, came home unexpectedly and was shocked to see a trail of blood scattered in the house. Following the trail, he came to the tank where he found his father’s body.
Lt. Col. Mubarak Al-Oqbi, who directed the investigation, said the murderer earlier planned to saw the body into pieces with an electric saw but he dropped that idea and decided to conceal his crime in the water tank.
According to neighbors, the son, who had previously attempted to stab his father as he prayed, was known for abusing his parents. After committing the crime, the son fled to a mental hospital, ostensibly to excuse himself on grounds of insanity.
The police needed help from the hospital staff to overpower the man who confessed to his crime to the police.
