Dubai eGovernment Director Named ‘Young CEO of the Year’

DUBAI, 24 March 2006 — Salem Al-Shair, eServices director, Dubai eGovernment has been named “Young CEO of the Year” at the Third Middle East CEO of the Year Awards announced on Wednesday at the Burj Al Arab, Dubai.

“Winning this award is indeed an honor for me. Although this is an individual award, it is a reflection of the commitment shown by everyone at Dubai eGovernment in achieving the highest standards of electronic governance,” said Al-Shair. “The success achieved by Dubai eGovernment in recent years in promoting the adoption of eServices among Dubai’s residents, has been commendable, especially at a time when Dubai is progressing toward the formation of a digital society.” Joschka Fischer, former German deputy chancellor and foreign minister, and Anwar Ibrahim, former deputy prime minister of Malaysia, presented the award.

The award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated vision and leadership to take their organization to a new level of growth, achievement and recognition. It recognizes professionals and individuals who have demonstrated excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. The winner is selected based on performance and track record in areas such as: The CEO’s skills and contribution; financial, marketing, operations and development management; and involvement in the community, environment and region.

The Middle East CEO of the Year Awards, instituted by Datamatix, honors the career achievements of extraordinary CEO’s from the government, industry, service sector, banking & finance, information & communication technology sectors as well as the best young CEO and woman CEO from the Middle East.

“The main objective of these awards is to recognize inspirational leaders in the region who have played a major role in taking their organizations to new levels of excellence and efficiency,” said Datamatix’s Ali Mohammed Al-Kamali, head of award’s organizing committee.
