JEDDAH, 25 March 2006 — Police in Taif arrested two people who shot a young Saudi in the leg and then kidnapped him, an Arabic language newspaper reported yesterday.
One of the alleged kidnappers, identified as Saad Al-Amri, opened fire at the young man after a heated verbal exchange in front of his house, security sources said.
The two kidnappers then fled in their car after placing the youth in the trunk. Police arrested them on Thursday after a long chase. Security agents are now questioning the two suspected kidnappers.
Security forces were able to track down the vehicle when the young man called them using his mobile phone, which his kidnappers had forgotten to grab. Red Crescent officials took the man to hospital.
Police said Al-Amri was a criminal wanted by police for drug-related offenses.
Al-Jazirah newspaper said Al-Amri was arrested when he caused an accident at the Al-Sindi roundabout during the chase.
Brig. Musaed Al-Lahaibi, director of Taif police, said his officers arrested the two criminals in record time, adding that one of them had signs of alcoholic intoxication.
