ISLAMABAD, 2 April 2006 — Hectic lobbying is taking place in Islamabad before the proposed reshuffle of the federal Cabinet, sources said.

Consultations between President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have taken place but still many waiting-in- line are not sure as to when the new Cabinet will be formed.

Sources said there are four lists of new ministers doing the round — one proposed by Aziz, second by the ruling Pakistan Muslim League, third by provincial chief ministers and fourth by the presidency.

Aziz had earlier announced that he would announce the names of his new ministers before his departure to the United States on April 4. He is scheduled to address a meeting of the United Nations.

Sources said, “The prime minister who is an economist wants a Cabinet of the type which delivers economic results. But political considerations are also there.”

A few Cabinet berths are lying vacant due to various reasons and chances are that they will soon be filled by suitable persons.
