JEDDAH, 4 April 2006 — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah yesterday reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s support for every effort that leads to the strengthening of Arab unity and joint Arab action as well as to a united stand on major global issues.
The king made this comment during a meeting of the Council of Ministers at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh and after listening to a report from Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal on last week’s Arab summit in Khartoum.
“The Cabinet expressed its hope that the Khartoum summit would boost Palestinian unity, protect Iraq’s security and integrity, bring about stability to Lebanon and defend all other Arab causes,” Culture and Information Minister Iyad Madani told the Saudi Press Agency.
The Cabinet meeting commended King Abdullah’s keynote speech at the annual session of the Shoura Council last Saturday, saying the speech would serve as a guideline for all government departments and agencies.
In his speech, Abdullah reiterated the government’s resolve to fight corruption and red tape and improve the efficiency of government workers. “The king’s speech...will serve as a base for drawing out strategies and plans of the state, government departments and agencies and all other sectors of society,” the Cabinet said in a statement.
The royal address had reaffirmed the Kingdom’s strong commitment to Shariah, and its determination to establish equal justice among all and work for the prosperity and happiness of citizens all over the country.
King Abdullah had also expressed the government’s determination to crush Al-Qaeda terrorists across the country.
During the Cabinet meeting, Abdullah underscored the services of the 150-member Shoura Council in boosting the Kingdom’s development, by drafting rules and regulations and finalizing agreements with foreign countries.
