Kingdom to Mark World Health Day in Big Way

RIYADH, 6 April 2006 — Extensive arrangements have been made by the Kingdom in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO) to observe World Health Day tomorrow. This year the theme is the health work force — “Working Together for Health.”

On Saturday, Health Minister Dr. Hamad Al-Manie will attend a ceremony organized by the WHO office in Riyadh to mark the day. The resident representative of WHO Awad Mukhtar and Towfiq Khoja, director general of the Council of Health Ministers at the GCC Secretariat in Riyadh, will give speeches.

The minister will distribute awards to 10 health officials who have rendered outstanding health care services in the Kingdom. Prizes will also be distributed to the winners of the art competition held for students of all age groups in Saudi schools. The contests were conducted by the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Office of the WHO.

The morning function will be followed by the inauguration of an exhibition attended by the Ministry of Health, Security Forces Hospital, Riyadh Armed Forces Hospital, King Khaled Eye Specialist Hospital and King Fahd National Guard Hospital.

The Health Ministry has sent out instructions to all heads of regional health centers to disseminate the health message among members of the public by organizing functions that will suit the respective areas. In addition, Saudi radio and television will carry special programs to emphasize the day.
