QUETTA, 24 April 2006 — Suspected tribal militants in the restive southwestern Balochistan province blew up a pipeline supplying a major gas distribution plant yesterday, a senior official said.

The pipeline supplied gas to the plant in the troubled Dera Bugti district from the Loti gas field, Abdul Samad Lasi, administrator of the district, told Reuters.

In another development, security forces following a tip-off seized and defused 13 rockets in Nelgh area of Balochistan. The rockets were aimed at a camp of the security forces.

In a separate incident three people, including a suspected Afghan militant, were injured when a bomb exploded yesterday on a local bus in Quetta, police said.

“The saboteur who is a resident of the Afghan province of Zabul was carrying explosives and wanted to plant them somewhere in the city, but they went off in the bus,” Balochistan police chief Chaudhary Mohammad Yaqub told AFP.

He said a preliminary interrogation of the Afghan man, who sustained serious injuries, revealed that he was planning to blow up government installations.
