CAIRO, 25 November 2006 — Arab ministers of justice are scheduled to discuss the various aspects of the United Nations charter to combat corruption in a two-day symposium to be held here today and tomorrow.
The symposium will explore the ways to implement the first comprehensive international legal document prepared by the UN to combat corruption on national and international levels.
It would also discuss the measures to achieve international cooperation to prevent this dangerously spreading tendency besides the methods to hand over criminals to their respective countries or required agencies.
The meeting will also highlight the role of the civilian society and the media in weeding out the corruption.
Saudi Justice Minister Abdullah Al-Sheikh arrived in Cairo yesterday at the head of the Saudi delegation to participate in the symposium.
Abdullah Al-Sheikh will also participate in the 35th session of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Justice Ministers to be held from Monday.
While the Egyptian justice minister will chair the meeting on the first two days, Al-Sheikh will preside over the meetings on Wednesday and Thursday.
The meetings on Monday and Tuesday will mainly discuss the Arab Charter on the combat of terror and the means to implement them effectively. Another item on the agenda of the meetings is the Arab charter to combat money laundering and terror financing.
They will also discuss the ways to unify the legislations in various Arab countries against terror financing and money laundering and organized crimes.
