MANAMA, 28 April 2006 - A bomb explosion in the Bahraini capital caused no casualties or damage, according to details released by authorities yesterday, a day after the blast.
The explosion Wednesday night in the upscale Manama district of Al-Adliyah occurred near the headquarters of the Interior Ministry's Criminal Investigation Directorate.
A second bomb was located and defused by police near the Phoenicia Hotel in the Hoora tourist district a couple of hours later.
An official at the scene of the second bomb said it was a crude, homemade device containing fuses and powder to mimic the sound of an explosion.
The hotel is frequented by tourists from the Gulf, mainly Saudi Arabia and Qatar, who travel to Bahrain during the weekend holidays.
The bomb attacks coincided with a Molotov cocktail attack on a police vehicle in Sitra, south of the capital, in which two policemen were slightly injured.
Sources said the two policemen were returning to the police station from a Manama hospital when they were attacked by a group of masked men.
