JEDDAH — The telecom war is heating up with Mobily promising to cut its international call rates so that they will be the lowest in the Middle East, according to a source close to the telecom sector.
The source said yesterday that Mobily was preparing “surprises” for its customers in the coming three weeks, as part of the company’s celebration of its first anniversary. Mobily launched as the Kingdom’s second service provider on May 25, 2005.
“The biggest surprise will be slashing rates of international calls to all countries around the world, beating all rates in Saudi Arabia and the rest of the Middle East,” the source added.
“One other big surprise will be to offer ‘almost free of charge’ special numbers to customers,” the source said.
Earlier, Mobily announced unprecedented discounted tariff for international calls to all customers in both prepaid and postpaid packages.
The rate is applicable for customers when they register for their favorite international number, and it is valid at any time during weekdays and weekends, eliminating peak and off-peak rates.
