In addition to finding ways to attract new consumer segments to its products, HP has also been working hard to increase its offerings for businesses. HP has introduced its first AMD processor-based thin client, as well as enhanced industry-standard x86 server offerings, both of which further extend the company’s portfolio of more than 30 products based on AMD processors.

The HP t5720 thin client, featuring the AMD Geode NX 1500 processor, is for business customers who need a powerful, secure and reliable computing experience. HP is also expanding the industry’s largest portfolio of AMD Opteron processor-based servers with the addition of Dual-Core AMD Opteron processor Models 185, 285 and 885 to the HP ProLiant DL145, DL385, DL585 density-optimized servers and HP ProLiant BL25p, BL35p and BL45p server blades. The new range of servers can help customers maximize the value of their business-critical databases and reduce power consumption.

HP and AMD began collaborating in 1996 to deliver the first AMD processor-based consumer computer from a major manufacturer, with the introduction of the HP Pavilion 6330 in the summer of 1998. The computer featured an AMD K6-2 microprocessor at an industry-low price. The turn of the millennium started with HP introducing the first business desktop featuring AMD Athlon XP processors.

“Together, HP and AMD have successfully garnered greater market penetration and acceptance for AMD64 technology-based HP systems over the past few years,” said Gaith Kadir, GM, Middle East and Africa (MEA), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). “Our close relationship has evolved to today’s broad consumer and commercial focus, driving a balanced computing market that ultimately benefits the end customer in both technology innovation and performance-per-watt competitiveness.”

The addition of AMD processors to the HP ProLiant server line in 2004 reinforced the company’s position as the No. 1 vendor of industry-standard x86 servers worldwide and as the leading provider of AMD Opteron processor-based server systems. Next came the launch of HP ProLiant server blades featuring AMD Opteron processors with Direct Connect Architecture, as well as a globally available HP Compaq business notebook incorporating AMD Turion 64 mobile technology with advanced security features.

The HP dx5150 Business Desktop, also launched in 2005, is designed with AMD processors ranging from the AMD Sempron processor 3000+ to the AMD Athlon 64 processor 4000+. Coupled with support for the new Microsoft Windows XP x64 Edition operating system, dual-channel DDR400 memory, high-performance serial ATA hard drives and an x16 PCI-Express slot, the dx5150 is ready to handle some of the most challenging business applications.

For security-conscious customers, the dx5150 features the latest AMD Enhanced Virus Protection which, when used with Microsoft Windows XP SP2, can prevent certain malicious viruses from executing. The system also includes AMD’s Cool’n’Quiet technology, which helps reduce processor power consumption and fan noise. Additionally, the ATI RADEON XPRESS200 chipset with built-in graphics, offers features including standard dual-display support, which helps customers be more productive.
