JEDDAH, 10 May 2006 — Sunni Yuvajana Sangam (SYS), a non-governmental organization, has urged Indian Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi to employ Malayalam-speaking officials at the Indian Consulate’s Haj missions in Makkah, Mina and Madinah during the Haj season. In a memorandum presented to the minister, they said such a move was essential to solve communication problems faced by pilgrims from Kerala. Currently all officials are from outside Kerala and cannot communicate with pilgrims in Malayalam, even though a large number of pilgrims speak the language.
