RIYADH, 10 May 2006 — Mobily, Saudi Arabia’s second mobile operator, said yesterday that it has slashed international tariff of calls to be the cheapest in the Kingdom and the whole region.

“This is one of several surprises to be announced soon as part of the company’s celebration of the first anniversary of launch on May 25,” the company said in an announcement.

Earlier, Mobily announced unprecedented discounted tariff for international calls, to all customers in both prepaid packages and postpaid packages. The rate is applicable for customers when they register for their favorite international number, and it is valid at any time during weekdays and weekends, eliminating peak and off-peak rates.

Calling GCC will now cost only 80 halalas instead of SR1.10 in the past, while the Philippines becomes SR1.90 instead of SR2.30. Mobily’s rates are charged by seconds not minutes, as some mobile operators do in some countries. Mobily, which started its operations only last year, has been very successful in getting more than 2.9 million subscribers and covering more than 55 cities and hundreds of villages as well as more than 10,000 km of highways throughout the Kingdom so far.
