ISLAMABAD, 11 May 2006 — Chief Minister of the North West Frontier Province Akram Khan Durrani said yesterday that he would not allow the FBI to open its offices in Chitral.

Talking to journalists in Peshawar he said the opening of the FBI office in the area would create security problems. “We will not allow it to be opened there,” he said.

Durrani said he had instructed the Home Department to take necessary measures to prevent the FBI from opening its offices in Chitral. Chitral is a remote town in NWFP bordering the Afghan provinces of Badakhshan and Kunar.

On Friday, a Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal member of the National Assembly, Maulana Akbar Chitrali led a protest rally against the proposed opening of FBI office in the city.
