JEDDAH, 20 August 2006 — The House of Artists kicked off here a weeklong workshop dedicated to showing solidarity with the people of Lebanon.

The program, titled “Lebanon in Artists Brushes”, is open to the public at the Al-Jamjoom Center.

Abdul Manan Hashim, spokesman for the House of Artists, said that the organization would provide the supplies for people to express themselves by painting what inspires them in relation to the recent Israeli-Hezbollah clashes in Lebanon. Men and women are invited to participate.

Following the program, the center will hold an exhibition of the works and a committee of judges will select three works as the best in show. The winners will receive prizes.

The House of Artists has been sponsoring summertime programs that have included workshops for children, sculpture and Arabic calligraphy. The group has also made a concerted effort to encourage women to participate in all workshops and sponsors weekly meetings for women artists.
