RIYADH, 25 May 2006 — Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has ordered the establishment of two centers of higher learning in the fields of science and medicine.
“Approval of higher authorities has been granted to open a faculty for sciences at Imam Muhammad ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh and a medical college in Al-Jouf University,” Minister of Higher Education Khaled Al-Anqari said yesterday in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency.
“The decision to open the two centers of higher learning comes in line with the policy of the Higher Education Council to expand the specializations that cater for the needs of the market and the developmental requirements of the nation.”
He emphasized that all the new departments being founded under the two new colleges will offer specializations and programs in pace with this aim and in response to the call of King Abdullah, who is the president of the Higher Education Council, to establish institutions of higher learning in various regions of the country.
The decisions of the king included the establishment of two deanships in King Saud University of Health Sciences — one for registration and administration and other for student affairs.
Mansour ibn Sulaiman Al-Saeed has been appointed as vice president for post graduate studies and scientific research at King Saud University, said Al-Anqari. Abdul Ghaffar ibn Saeed Bazuhair has been named vice president of Jizan University and Tarish ibn Muslim Al-Sahmmari has been named vice president of Al-Jouf University. The appointments are for a period of three years, the minister added.
Al-Anqari said the council also approved the opening of a vice presidency for projects at King Abdul Aziz University, a vice presidency for educational affairs at King Saud University for Health Sciences, and a vice presidency for academic affairs at Hail University.
