Muezzin Makes Unique Use of Mosque Intercom

ABHA, 25 November 2006 — Proving that there is more than one use for the speakers that crown mosques and broadcast the call to prayer, a muezzin here decided to use the mosque’s public address system to outline the finer points of his opinions of his mentor, the mosque’s imam. According to a report in the Al-Madinah daily yesterday, local residents were obliged just after midnight sometime last week to listen to the muezzin curse at the imam who was standing nearby and could be heard interjecting. Somebody called the police, who intervened and put an end to the impromptu broadcast.
