JEDDAH, 6 June 2006 — A newborn baby was rescued from a garbage bin near a rest house in Riyadh where it was abandoned hours after birth, Al-Madinah Arabic newspaper reported yesterday.
A young man spotted the baby amidst a bunch of bickering alley cats fighting to share the morning garbage.
He snatched the half-dead baby, which did not have any clothing on it to protect it against the sun, from the claws of hungry alley cats. Its tender body was bleeding from several mangle wounds.
Being shocked and confused at the sight, the youth sought the help of the imam of a local mosque who informed the police. They moved the child to Riyadh Medical Complex, where it remains in critical condition, the newspaper said.
