DAMMAM, 23 June 2006 — Learning that one is adopted can be difficult, especially if it is accidental and not because your parents told you. This is what happened to a 14-year-old girl from Dammam, Al-Watan daily reported yesterday, when she learned of her adoption after reviewing her school records. Her parents said that they withheld this information from the girl because they were worried about the social stigma of adopted children. The girl underwent counseling sessions after she refused to go to school. Social welfare workers have since persuaded the girl that she needs to move on; she’s enrolled in online courses to make up for lost studies. Hopefully she’s back on track.
