RIYADH, 23 October 2006 — The First Global NRIs convention on investment opportunities in Orissa will be held at the India International Center, New Delhi, on Dec 16-17.
It is the first time that Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has sought to mobilize the resources of non-resident Indians in the economic development of Orissa in northeastern India. In the past, the focus of the event was mainly to select the winner of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas award for making a contribution to the socioeconomic development of the country in which the NRI was working.
A spokesman for the Indian Embassy told Arab News that the event is being organized by “Odissa Forum,” Delhi, with the support of the Orissa government and the federal Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs. It will be inaugurated by Vayalar Ravi, minister OIA, in the presence of Orissa Chief Minister Navin Patnaik.
He said NRIs from different countries and residents as well will have an opportunity to meet and network with the representatives of the private sector.
The highlights of the event include presentations and seminars on the unfolding investment opportunities in Orissa, especially in tourism, IT/BPO, education and healthcare services, besides the mining industry. A highlight of the event will be the “Odissa Festival” at Dilli Haat from Dec. 17 to 21. India’s leading performers will put up the Odissi Cultural Show at Sai International Center on Dec. 17.
A convention dinner will be hosted by the minister of overseas Indian affairs on Dec. 16. The spokesman said there will be an NRI registration fee of $50 per family of two. This will entitle the NRIs to attend all events. Those interested have been asked to contact the organizers via email: [email protected] in advance and register on Dec 16 (8.30 am to 9.30 am).
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas aims at bringing the expertise and knowledge of the Indian overseas community to India and integrating it into India’s development process. Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is focused to highlight networking opportunities among the NRIs. It also helps in directing the opportunities toward the goal of a bright economic future for the country.
