RIYADH, 30 June 2006 — The Fawaq International Science School of the Philippines (FISSP) is just the latest school established in the Kingdom for Filipino students.
What differentiates it from the rest, according to its officials, is that it has a unique approach, using modules instead of the usual textbooks.
Wilfredo Biay, the school administrator, said each module has a topic drawn from various references, which means the concept and ideas were developed by different writers and experts, not from one author only.
Aside from the modules, Biay said, task sheets and handouts will be applied in addition to other learning resources such as audio-visual tapes, CDs, VCDs and DVDs.
The curriculum in FISSP is focused on science, mathematics, English and computers. The school is equipped with modern facilities, including computers with access to the Internet for research and experiments.
“As a science school, we are emphasizing both the conceptual structures and processes with the inculcation of scientific attitudes and values in the major academic subjects,” said Eric Roxas, school consultant.
“Students should be taught to be perceptive toward their environment. FISSP recognizes the importance of keeping abreast with the latest trends in education particularly in science and technology,” he explained.
FISSP is also a day care center where children from one to five years of age can be accommodated while their parents are at work. It is open from Saturday to Wednesday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
FISSP has curriculums for pre-school, grade school and high school. The teaching staff are mostly from the University of the Philippines, Dela Salle University and the Philippine Normal University.
FISSP is located along the Prince Turki Road, Ma’ather District, at the west side of King Faisal Hospital. The school welcomes inquiries at numbers 05093-49442 (Willie), 05069-37199 (Eric) and 05011-67018 (Marie).
