TUNIS, 25 July 2006 — “Yacoubian Building,” a film based on a novel published in 2000 by Egyptian writer Ala Al-Aswani won accolades from both the public and critics of the 41st Carthage International Film festival at the ancient Roman theater in Carthage, Tunisia. The film has been shown to approximately 12,000 attendees of the festival that runs through mid-August.
“Emaarah Yaqubian” (The Yacoubian Building) is the story of the residents of a residential building, which addresses the sometimes-taboo subjects of corruption, sex, class divide and retribution in Arab society.
The film’s cast includes stars of diverse age groups: Adel Imam, Nur Al-Sharif, Yusra, Hind Sabri, Ahmad Bodair, Ahmad Rateb, Esad Yunus, and Sumayya Al-Khashab.
