Infant Left Abandoned in Local Mosque

MADINAH, 3 July 2006 — Women worshippers at a mosque in Madinah were shocked to find a two-day-old baby boy abandoned in their quarters of the mosque, the Al-Watan daily reported. The worshippers were drawn to the baby’s crying. Thinking the mother was close by; some of the women went around inquiring where the mother of the whaling child was. As time passed, the women realized that the baby had in fact been abandoned and took him to a nearby hospital. His condition is said to be stable. Local media has sighted illegitimate relationships as being the number one cause of babies being abandoned.
