UAE Announces New Work Rules

DUBAI, 9 July 2006 — The Ministry of Labor yesterday announced that companies should not allow workers to operate in the sun and outdoors for more than five hours a day and should be given a break between 12.30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Speaking to journalists at Al-Bustan Rotana in Dubai, Ali ibn Abdullah Al-Kaabi, minister of labor, called on companies and businesses to follow the rules strictly.

The announcement came at the launch of the Summer Working Hours Campaign organized by the ministry to regulate working environment and protect laborers in the UAE. Companies found violating the resolution will face fines of up to 30,000 dirhams.
