CAIRO, 15 July 2006 — Layla Alawi won the Best Actress award in the Radio and Television Awards for 2005 in Egypt. The award for her superb role in the serial “The Daughter of Shabra” was given here recently in a function, which had been postponed more than once after terror attacks in Sinai, Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday.
Manal Salamah also won the Best Actress award golden statue for excellent performance in the Al-Dill.
The jurors adjudicated Adel Mokain as Best Director for his direction of the serial “A Thousand and One Nights.” The award for Best Script went to Ahmad Farooq.
A number of actors and other artists whose films were nominated for awards but did not receive any prizes were also acknowledged in the function. Director Abdul Munim Sadeq’s the “Last Moment,” received a bronze statue.
However Director Jamal Abdul Hamid, though he was nominated for the Best Director for “The Daughter of Shabra” did not attend the function.
