JEDDAH, 21 July 2006 — Ever wonder how despite being banned from most shopping malls, single men still manage to sneak in and harass female shoppers?

According to a report in the Al-Madinah newspaper, one Saudi security guard at a popular mall in Jeddah has made a lucrative business out of the law that bans singles from entering shopping malls by taking backhand bribes of SR30 from youths wanting to enter.

The law, which allows mall authorities to ban youth from entering malls as singles, is supposed to protect women shoppers from being harassed.

According to the report the security guard has been able to make quite a hefty profit out of the enterprise.

The mall authorities have been informed of the guard’s activities.
