JEDDAH, 4 November 2006 — As expected, Saudi Arabia advanced into the quarterfinals of the AFC Youth Championship with a routine 2-0 victory over Vietnam yesterday at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bangalore, India.
Iraq blasted Malaysia 3-0 to become the other quarfinalist from Group D.
Iraq topped the group on goal difference despite being tied with the Saudis on seven points from two wins and one draw each. Vietnam (3 points) failed to reach the knockout stage for the fourth time in a row while Malaysia were without a point losing all three matches.
Scoring for Saudi Arabia were captain Jufain Al Bishi (13) from the spot and Mohamed Al Bishi (90).
In the quarterfinal, Saudi Arabia play Japan in the first match at 4 p.m. local time on Monday before South Korea clash with Iraq in the second match at 7 p.m.
