JEDDAH, 20 September 2006 — Middle East Broadcasting announced its 15-year anniversary by highlighting the milestones achieved over the past years, according to a press release yesterday.
MBC has become a world leader in television broadcasting for its exceptional and accurate representation of the Arabic culture in all its forms and shapes, with the objective to fulfill people’s interests and desires by offering them high quality and exclusive programs. To this day, MBC is still ranked number one in the region, crystallizing 15 years of excellence and leadership.
When MBC broke the mold in September 1991 to become the first broadcaster to create a free-to-air, 24-hour television network across the Arab world, it was due to a group of visionary businessmen and shareholders, including chairman and CEO Waleed ibn Ibrahim Al Ibrahim, who used satellite technology to break the government monopolies in the Middle East.
MBC has always been a regional leader and consistent in catering to regional needs. Their impact on society was first noticed a few weeks after the initial launch from London in 1991.
The daily news was so daring and competitive; it attracted the region’s attention to a new style in news presenting. In addition to the groundbreaking material, MBC was the first to establish a professional presentation in terms of packaging and content along with the state-of-the-art technology that was unheard of in the region.
Moreover, MBC was consistent in recruiting new and young Arab talents that later on became the regions most beloved faces.
MBC was and still is the market leader in delivering news and quality family entertainment programming to more than 300 million Arabic speakers around the world.
MBC has moved its headquarters to Dubai Media City, enabling the whole production process to be closer to its Arab viewers. The center has been described as one of the new wonders of the satellite transmission world.
