JEDDAH, 25 October 2006 — A pregnant Jeddawi woman was preparing for the Eid holiday by visiting a hair salon on ritzy Tahlia Street Sunday night. Like most everyone here, she was getting herself ready to celebrate Eid with a fresh look. But just as she was getting ready to sit in the salon chair the pangs of a new life began to erupt inside here and she went into labor. According to the daily Okaz yesterday, the woman gave birth in the salon before the ambulance could navigate the congested streets of Jeddah to get her to a maternity ward. It didn’t matter: she gave birth to a healthy baby girl — Sarah — without the help of hospital staff.
