RIYADH, 3 October 2006 — The Passport Department issued a warning against citizens and residents against aiding, abetting or housing persons who have overstayed their visas or others that are in the country illegally.
Immigration authorities reiterated that those who help undocumented migrants and overstayers face stiff punishments that include a fine of up to SR5,000 ($1,333) and two years in prison. Violations include providing transportation to people who are residing in the country illegally.
Property owners also face punitive measures if they are caught renting to or otherwise harboring illegal immigrants on their properties. The Passport Department also urged citizens to call 992 to report violators.
