Ahli Captain to Try Out With Lorient
JEDDAH, 5 October 2006 — Al-Ahli team captain Hussain Abdulgani is to try out with Ligue 1 club Lorient. According to eurosport.com, the left winger will train in France for four days. If successful, terms will be negotiated with his current club Ahli.
“If Al-Ahli can reach an agreement with the French club that is fitting for a player of Abdulghani’s status then a representative from Lorient will arrive in Jeddah to complete the move,” Ahmed Al-Marzouqi, Ahli club president, was quoted by eurosport.com as saying. Lorient manager Christian Gourcuff formerly coached Saudi team Al-Gharafa.
Al-Otaibi to Miss Doha Asian Games
JEDDAH — The Kingdom’s hopes for a gold medal in the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar suffered a blow when track star Mushalad Al-Otaibi was ruled out of the biennial meet after he severely injured his knee during training.
Doctors said it would take at the very least one month for the injury to heal raising the likelihood that Al-Otaibi will miss the Asiad set for Dec. 1-15. Al-Otaibi was a double gold medalist in the 10,000 and 5,000 meters in the 2002 Asiad in Korea.
Ramadan Football Tournament
JEDDAH — Under the patronage of Prince Abdulmajeed, Governor of Makkah Province, the Ramadan football tournament kicked off on Tuesday at Al-Samm club here.
Salih Al-Turki, president of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Adil Arif, Al-Samm club chairman, attended the opening day. Twelve teams representing Jeddah companies and districts are seeing action in the tournament.
Al-Khalidiah Stable Dominate
JEDDAH — Horses from the Al-Khalidiah Stable of Assistant Defense and Aviation Minister for Military Affairs Prince Khalid ibn Sultan dominated by winning four categories in the Arabian Horses Contest in St. Tropez, France.
Lana Al-Khalidiah and Motazz Al-Youbiyah won the two contests for mares while stablemates Lumpar Symphony and Dakaro were the winners in the horses and stallions categories. The competition where beauty and bloodline carry a lot of weight in the criteria for judging attracted 140 horses from 19 countries.
