MADINAH, 11 October 2006 — Police found bodies of a man and a woman in a car parked in the garage of an apartment building in the Al-Harra Al-Shargeya area east of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah on Monday.

The car belonged to the man who was found dead inside. Following investigations police said the two had died after inhaling carbon monoxide gas.

Rumors circulated in the neighborhood that the two had been shot dead. Some people said that they were stabbed to death. Police and a forensic team arrived at the location and found the car’s engine running.

Police ruled out the possibility of homicide after an autopsy that revealed that there were no signs of aggression on the bodies. They said the two inhaled the lethal carbon monoxide gas that had leaked inside the car.

Police identified the female body in the car as that of a university student. They were still investigating whether the woman had attended university that day.

A police source said the bodies were discovered around 7 p.m. Monday but the deaths happened around 12 noon.
